Reaching the world through education

The University of Arizona

Center for the Study of Higher Education

International education is a major initiative of the Center for the Study of Higher Education (CSHED).  This past spring (2004), the Center hosted the first symposium including the CSHED and five Mexican universities.  The purpose is to develop educational programs and research projects focusing on Latin American higher education.

The Center has worked with the University of Huddersfield, England to establish the first College Student Personnel program and is planning to work with ITSM Guadalajara Campus, Guadalajara, Mexico and Universidade Federal do Ceara, Brazil to develop College Student Personnel programs. The Center does offer international internship opportunities for students in CSP as well as opportunities to work with faculty on international research projects. During the last two years (2002-04), a total of ten MA/PhD students in CSP have worked on two separate but related international research projects. The first research project resulted in a paper entitled: The Global Practice of Student Affairs/Services: An International Survey, coordinated by Dr. Doug Woodard.

At the UA Center for the Study of Higher Education, students are encouraged to think globally. All faculty include an international seminar in courses, all faculty write and research international topics, and faculty regularly include students in international research projects..
