Department of Counseling and Human Development Services

This summer the University of Georgia's Department of Counseling and Human Development
Services is offering its first Maymester (three weeks) course on Comparative Issues in
Higher Education and Counseling: Ghana, West Africa and United States. This course will
provide an overview of comparative issues in higher education and counseling. Students
will have the opportunity to visit four major universities in Ghana, exchange with
Ghanaian college students, faculty, administrators and counselors, and develop a research
project to capture commonalities and differences. Additionally, students will gain a
multi-disciplinary overview of cultural, social, political and economic development in
Ghana, West Africa.  Our students will earn course credits for their participation and
will present their research projects to their peers in the fall. This summer 2005 we have
three doctoral students participating.
