Practicum and
Internship Experiences
First Semester:
SERP 575 Practicum (1 credit)
Students complete formal observations of orientation and mobility
instructors who are teaching children and adults with visual
impairments.
Second Semester:
SERP 594 Orientation and Mobility Practicum (3 credits)
Students spend a minimum of 100 hours observing and assist the Certified
Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) instructor where appropriate.
Third Semester:
SERP 593 Internship (7 credits)
Students spend a minimum of 250 hours teaching in a supervised
internship setting with supervision by a COMS. They demonstrate the
knowledge and skills to carry out all aspects of the role of a COMS, as
defined in the certification standards of ACVREP.
