Encouraging girls and teens in science / computers / technology

This resource page is designed to include information and issues relating to K-12 girls and computing, as well as information for parents or teachers to encourage young girls to get interested in science/math/technology and to consider related careers.

Equity and excellence in mathematics

All students, regardless of race, ethnic group, gender, socioeconomic status, geographic location, age, language, disability, or prior mathematics achievement, deserve equitable access to challenging and meaningful mathematics learning and achievement. This concept suggests that ensuring equity and excellence must be at the core of systemic reform efforts, not only in mathematics, but in education as a whole.

Equity and excellence in science

Educators and community members are becoming increasingly aware that most students, particularly ethnic and language minorities and females, are not being served adequately by many existing science programs. Traditional patterns of science education have contributed to widespread scientific illiteracy among students and adults and a serious under-representation of minorities and females in scientific and technical careers.
